PACKCAST vs. TV
With our PackCasts, we strive to mirror traditional television broadcasts in every way. Viewers see all the elements they normally would on their TV — such as graphics and commercials — but the PackCast they are watching is only available on the web.
We love it when people see someone watching a PackCast and ask "What station is this on?" That is our biggest compliment. It means we are succeeding in replicating the TV-watching experience in web form.
Many of our clients have purchased airtime on regional or local TV networks in an attempt to increase exposure for their event or product.
We argue that choosing a PackCast over TV has many distinct advantages:
Cost
The typical TV production costs $15,000 to $30,000. A comparable PackCast costs one tenth as much, $1500 to $3000.
Exposure
While regional and local TV networks reach thousands of homes in a confined area, there are 1.5 billion web users worldwide, a number that grows every day. By comparison, one of the world's largest satellite TV providers, DirecTV, has just over 18 million subscribers (May 2009 figures from DirecTV). Also, the quality of those web users' web connections and data speeds is growing exponentially every year, making it possible to continually improve the video and audio quality of webcasts.
Control
You have full control over every aspect of the PackCast, from the time and length of the coverage to all the advertising opportunities. Want a PackCast for a basketball game with a half-hour pre-game show? No problem. Want to offer a presenting sponsor for an event the chance to run their whole inventory of video spots or commercials? It is all very easy with the PackCast. Not so with traditional TV. When you purchase air time on a local or regional TV network, typically you have to work around other programming on those networks and your event may air at a less-than-ideal time and only for a specified length. Beyond the content of your event, you typically have no other control of a traditonal TV production. With the PackCast, the show is entirely customized for your event or product.
Flexibility
From the standpoint of both broadcasting and viewing, the PackCast is inherantly more flexible than a traditional TV production. A live PackCast can be produced from almost anywhere, even from a moving boat on a river (see our portfolio for a sample). Try doing that with a TV truck and a satellite dish. From the viewer perspective, a PackCast is accessible anywhere there is a high-speed internet connection. There is no need to have a specific cable service, channel, or internet provider.
Revenue Opportunities
With the standard TV production, there is virtually no way to recoup the significant production costs. With the PackCast and our production services there are unlimited ways to generate revenue. Create and sell as much advertising and sponsorship inventory as you please. We can make the event pay-per-view or sell access to watch the archives. We even can produce DVD copies for sale.
Shelf Life
When you purchase airtime on a local or regional TV network, typically your event airs and that's the end of it. If your clients or fans missed the broadcast (or were at the event) there is no way for them to watch the production. With the PackCast, the event is archived and viewers can watch the event exactly as it aired live — anytime, on demand.
Bundling
With a PackCast it is very cost effective to bundle services. After your event, say you want a highlight package or some clips for your website. This is a natural progression for the PackCast and is easily added to your service.
Summary
PackCasts are a fraction of the cost of regular TV productions and can potentially reach millions more people. They are more flexible with more revenue opportunities and afford you total control. Give the PackCast a try, we're confident that you will quickly become a fan.
